I Did It!

I did it! My google reader is at 0! This was no easy task either! All you type happy little bloggers out there--you kept on posting away while I was frantically reading away. I would get the number down one or two and the darn things would highlight yellow stuff at me- mocking me that you were all posting away and my number to read was going higher and higher! I started sweating- I didn't think I could do it and then I would be in trouble again tomorrow. I almost gave up. But I pushed through. And I did it! Woo hoo! Crap! That darn google reader now says 2! Which one of you is posting now and doing it just to mess with me?? Oh, I'll find out soon enough!

I'll leave you with a final parting thought- so I know I complain about my job all the time just a little bit. I don't want you to think that I am a complete loon who should not be doing this job any longer. While that may be true, I do feel a bit justified in my desire to go on grumbling about going to work each day. Wanna know why? Oh sure you do! Today I got to work and we had NO heat. Yes, that is right, NO heat. The temp. was at or below freezing and the wind chill was in the single digits. But we had NO heat. That was at 8 am. A little before 11 we finally got heat back. In the mean time, I was attempting to teach my class of distracted students with all of us bundled in coats. Oh the fun doesn't end there. The maintain people were coming in and out talking on walkie talkies and banging around a bit. The best is when you are trying to teach reading with a portly man whose pants have fallen below any level of acceptable and some serious crack showing. All the while draining water from the heating vent. I'm pretty sure my lesson was lost today. Okay, okay, so the heat is fixed and comes back on. But that couldn't be the end of it because what fun would that be. My heat is on and running, we are starting to defrost. The heat continues to run. Wait, is that the heat still running? Oh yes, I then skyrocketed past normal room temps and straight into the tropics. We were hovering about the 83 degree mark on the thermostat. Fun times all! Fun times! Wonder what joys tomorrow will bring!!

(yes, if you are keeping track, this is the same building that has to bring in drinking water because our water is not acceptable for the kids to drink and the same building that had no water pressure/could not flush toilets a few months ago)

Wow, if it's not one thing it's another with your school hey? I'd be complaining too!!

As for google reader...I keep hearing about it, but haven't used it yet. I think i'm going to start though, rather than always going through my blog-roll to see who has posted something. Maybe that's what I'll do tomorrow...

Around here they would have closed for the day with no heat. Sounds like you need a new building.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with a building like that to teach. YUCK! It sounds like my MIL's building she taught in. She had no heat and also mold everywhere!!! I can't believe you caught up on your google reader. I bow down to you! ;) Also, thanks for your thoughts and well wishes with my throat procedure today! I really appreciate it!

Oh man! Don't they know that no heat = no school? I think THEY need a lesson in an acceptable teaching environment.

I know I am aways checking my bloglines. I have learned to let some of it go, it was driving me crazy.

It sounds like you have every right to complain at your work. All of that is rediculous. But there are many of us that are greatful to teachers like you that still go through all this to teach our kids. I know I really do appreciate all that you guys do.

Man, that SUCKS! How could they ask you guys to work in those conditions and expect kids to actually have a chance at learning in those conditions . . . dude, you are totally justified in complaining. It's totally unacceptable! Good job on getting your reader down . . . I think I need to do the reader thing . . . just haven't gotten around to it :-)

Ahh, there's got to be something positive about having that job, like how you stand above it all and influence others' lives with a smile :) I know. I'm just say'n.

I never get my google reader to 0! Someone is always posting something.

Have a good weekend! At least you'll be at home with heat and drinkable water!

Yikes...maybe you should start a petition to build a new school building or something. ;) And I just have to say that I love google reader...so handy!

You have lots to read! I know the feeling of "catching up." Or trying to -after going offline for a day or a couple.

BTW, re the school building, sound like the elemntary school I went to. I just hope it's imporved now. And I hope everything works out for the best for you - and everyone else out there. Heat and all (I truly hope as I can just imagine that the situation you're describing is not conducive to learning or teaching).

What an awful day! At least it made for a good blogging story though, right? I had to laugh about the serious crack showing!

I don't use google reader- but sometimes when my email sky rockets to over 100 and I know I need to go leave comments on all of those blogs I get a bit overwhelmed too!

My Google Reader is always spitting new ones out...I have a hard time keeping up lately!
Thankfully, everyone is patient and doesn't think I've run away.
Your school has some major issues....we need some fantastic teachers out here...wanna move?

I love Google Reader. My problem is I keep adding new blogs and don't have time to read everything!!! I am so sorry about your school situation. I have had similiar problems with room temperature- but not nearly as bad.
