Here is a list of things I have learned in the last 10+ months of being a mommy to two kids.
- crayons are non-toxic- while not a dinner meal, it is okay to be occasionally digested
- the world will not come to a crashing hault if (and I shutter to say this!) two different colors of play-doh touch or (even worse yet!) get mixed together
- if marker caps are not put back on tightly - all will be okay- the store does indeed sell more
- it is impossibly hard to keep the 2nd one from eating sugar, ice cream, etc - don't even bother. Just sugar them up from the start and blame the older one for giving it to him when you weren't looking
- boys and girls are different- boys genes are just different
- the laundry room is an acceptable place to hid - you can buy yourself 2.3 minutes if you say you need to check the laundry
- you don't need toys for the baby- he will find his sisters projects to be much more fascinating
- your kids still love you when you are tired, grumpy, and barking at them- they forgive you too! (I thank God for this everyday!)
- even when you think you can't, you can handle whatever it is- you will get through it
- laughing at the craziness is best (though it is only when I retell the crazy that I laugh- still working on it!)
- too much tv is okay when you really need to rest
- making the older one play alone is good for building imagination, independence, and creativity (at least we are going with that theory)
- girls can wear blue, green, etc- but don't put that boy in pink or purple- Daddy will not be happy if you do!
- the kitchen cupboards are a fun toy for all ages!
- you can get lucky and have a big sister who adores her brother and doesn't get jealous
- dirt, fuzzy pieces, rocks, etc - will end up in the baby's mouth. Don't even try to stop it...just go with it
- food under the table is fair game also - call it a snack and then you don't have to feel badly
- the toilet is apparently fun and a good place to store baby socks
- the older one WILL get into all kinds of trouble while you are feeding the baby - as long as there is no blood or broken bones, you can clean the rest up later
- scotch guarding you couch - always a good thing
- spit up can and will land on everyone in the room
- hugs and kisses from your kids - whatever number you have- are great. Seeing your children hug each other - awesome!

Are you sure the world won't come to a crashing hault if play-doh gets mixed together? I'm quite sure I read somewhere that it would be earth shattering if that were ever to happen ;)
Cute list!! I needed the smiles tonight.
Great list! But I gave up being spazzy about play-doh, markers and crayons long ago. Dirt is indeed good.
That was an amazing list you came up with! I loved it!!
Our play-doh is all mixed up and looks purply-brown. You'd love it! :)
good words to live by. i should probably print that out and hang it somewhere....
hahaha...I love that list! I laughed way too hard...especially the one about the toilet being a good place to store baby socks! hehe. ;) For some reason when I ask Tate to put something in the garbage (which he normally does REALLY well) he has recently been thinking that the toilet is the garbage...so I just about had the junk mail end up in there today. Whew. Glad i caught him just in time...
About the reviews - I'll email you on how to do it...it's really easy and you could TOTALLY do it!!!! What is your email though? Just leave me a comment or something with your email and I'll get back to you asap!
I LOVED this list! I laughed throughout the entire thing as it's our house to a T! So FUNNY!I just barely got over the play dough mixing together. ha ha. I totally do the "gotta check the laundry" thing too! FUNNY! I could go on and on on how everything is exactly like me, but you get my point! Great post!! :)
To answer your question about the pictures. . . the only way I've seen to put your name across them (which I wanna do too) is through a photoshop program, which I intend to buy for other reasons beyond that. Photoshop is tons of fun! I too didn't think of people taking pics on my kids and putting them on their fliers/books/mags/blogs. I don't mind friends/family/blogging buddies doing so, but for complete strangers, it seems a bit odd, especially if they make money off of it or whatever. K-I'm done giving you my novel of an answer!
I'd love to see the pics with the markers on the fingers! It cracked me up when Kya did it!
I love this - reading your posts makes me feel like I'm not so weird ;o) Mixing up the play dough???? Are you SURE that is OK???? I will have to work on that one and prepare myself for when she is older LOL
Your point about the TV made me feel so much better too - at my mummy and baby class they told us that kids must NOT watch TV, not even in the background! Not even background noise or music! Are they CRAZY? (and not good crazy)! I tried to do it for a whole day - no TV, no music or background noise and it was HORRIBLE. Sometimes I need to do something like the ironing or washing up and YES I let Little Loola watch the Baby TV shows - she likes them and it gives me chance to do "stuff" every now and then.
Have a great day and thank you so much for all your comments - cheered me up this morning :o)
Jo
these are great.. and soooo true! now if I can just remember them all when I have 2 running around I'll be set (o:
OK--this is pretty funny. I just want one more so I can watch them hug :)
Just have to get Daddy on board!
I'm still struggling with the Play-Doh one. I know the Play-Doh police won't drop out of the ceiling to arrest us for mixing colors, but I can't help but to keep looking up, just in case, when the Toddler goes to prove her point.
LOL It's funny how many things all Mommies stress about.
Couldn't do the play-dough one. That one really bothered me, being a compulsive freak, that is.
OK. I'm over it.
Cheers to your wisdom, friend and have a great day :)
That is a great list. I had the hardest time letting my kids mix Play dough colors, finally with the third child I know it is o-kay to have brown play dough. I can buy more at the store when I go to buy the markers. This list sounds so much like me.
How true! I'm with ya on the Play Doh thing . . . mixing colors, OMG! ;-)
OH I love this list! It is great!
That explains why MotherDear did so much laundry when we were all growing up.
I hate when the play-doh gets mixed together!!! I only give the Kindergarten students one color at a timer. I know I am a meanie. I will have to rememeber to go and hide and do laundry- thanks for the tip. It is true about handling the things you don't think you can! Thanks for the great list!
Great list!
I don't like mixed play doh but I can tolerate it more than old, hard play doh, that is just gross!
peace & Love!
This is a great list.
And I'm with everyone on the play dough mixing thing. *big shudder here*
And I could add a couple (Okay - least a bazillion more) things to your list. But one important one in my house is... letting kids pick out their own clothes can be a really good thing - if you can get past the vomit green top they picked as their favorite thing to wear... squinting a lot helps.
Just Because
Thank you for this list...I could comment on every one of them...they are perfect. I am going to print this out and tape it to my fridge. Thanks for the smile.
I like this list!
Too funny and good to know since I am due in a week.
This is almost a positive side of you. Are you feeling all right?
great post! Moms never stop learning :)
That's amazing "facts." I have to laugh about daddy's preference to the colors of clothings if it's a boy. I can totally relate.
