Andrea gave us the challenge at the beginning of winter to come up with a 'menu' or plan of activities to help ward off the winter blahs. I had some ideas back in October that would help keep us busy when we can't get outside to play. Guess what? I STINK!! I fell prey to the sleepy, tired mommy of an infant syndrome and didn't fight off the winter blues at all. I got tired, I got lazy, I got addicted to blogging and I got blah. I hated winter and now I can't wait for it to be gone.
I didn't do well with the challenge and I didn't really keep my family busy. What did I do then you ask? Well, I did normal family things. I worked and played with the kids, I let the kids watch tv while I blogged, I gave them baths and made sure they ate dinner. At Christmas time we did drive around and look at lights a bit. Daddy went sledding with Ashlyn when it would snow. We played inside and made a mess. We go to the local library every other week and we always read books at bedtime (and usually other times during the day). We played games (millions of rounds of Candyland and Chutes and Ladders), play-doh, puzzles, etc when Ashlyn requested these things. We did make lots of treats and had fun baking together. But I can't say that I followed a plan- it was very spur of the moment, Ashlyn asked to do it, or we already did it anyway kind of things. Sorry Andrea- I failed at your challenge and I am just glad spring is only a few days away!
As I hang my failure head in shame, I will leave you with some cute pictures of Ashlyn helping me in the kitchen and baking some goodies! At least we did that!
When we did attempt crafts, this is the mess that developed. I think Riley is eating glitter, or maybe it is a pair of scissors he is playing with.

16 Random Thoughts:
sounds to me like you did a lot to deal with the long hard winter... don't beat yourself up (there's always next year) (o:
Beautiful pictures of Ashlyn! That little worker looks like a big help to Mom!
Hey I love the whole new look1 It's like a more grown up version of you (I of course mean this in a good way!!)
Peace & Love
Well you did better than I did. I didn't even remember to post my failure update.
You certainly do have a beautiful helper!! And, what fun is it to make cookies if you can't lick the spoon... even if there are raw eggs in the batter ;)
Well, I'm off to go play with Hailey so I can say I did something besides blog all winter long.
Such a darling little helper - she truly is beautiful, Pam!!! Thanks for coming by. Hope you are having a good weekend and I'll see you soon. Kellan
Such beautiful smile that reaches those equally beautiful eyes. Gorgeous daughter! Points for you - oh well, for your hub as well. Hehe.
At least you are not alone! I totally gave in to the winter blahs this year! And I am sorry I forgot about the Random Recipes this week! I totally spaced. Your recipe sounds great though.
She's a cute one! If you didn't let her lick the spoon, btw, THEN you would be a bad mom. It's a right of passage that every child should enjoy. Period.
It sounds like you did a great job keeping them busy. Do not be so hard on yourself. No of us are perfect, or do all the things with our kids we think we should do.
She IS a beautiful helper! And the craft mess is the reason you're a better mom than I. At present the kids are arguing over who gets the green paint brush. I can't handle the mess AND the bickering so we rarely do fun things here. I suck at mommyhood.
Hi Pam - hope you are having a good weekend - thanks for coming by - see you soon. Kellan
And what is wrong with licking the spoon? :)
Okay, I have a few things to say.
#1 -- I think you did better at the challenge than you give yourself credit for. (and like you'll read later tonight in my post, I wasn't as good as keeping the menu as I was planning to either) You made an effort to keep your kids busy and entertained and that's the main thing!
#2 -- Letting your kids lick the spoon is totally the RIGHT thing to do! It wouldn't be a proper cookie-making experience if there wasn't any spoon-lickage!
#3 -- DIET pepsi?!? Come on, Pam -- that's like a slap in the face to me!! (hee hee...)
Thanks for participating in the challenge. And hey -- even if you didn't do what you exactly planned on doing...just think, we got EACH OTHER out of this challenge. Can you imagine that if it wasn't for my challenge, we may never have 'met'? GASP!!!!
Love you!
xoxo
Yup, sounds like my success with the winter activity challenge!! "Let my kids watch TV while I blogged" ~ yup, I can identify with that one!!! You have a beautiful daughter.
Cooking with kids is the best! I could leave the messes, though. I'll need an email reminder to contribute my fav pizza recipe! Thanks!
haha. I think we all fall prey to the winter blues. I know I did. This Jersey weather is killing me. I went for a walk in the stroller today! yay! I can't wait for the sunshine. Your daughter really is a beautiful little helper.
She's got the face of a little doll. She's so beautiful and the fact she's cooking has got to touch your heart. BTW: the library is just the neatest idea. Something I'll take with me forever and ever - my mom took us when we were tiny. xoxo
